You are a brave man. I'd never fry in the city, talk about a fucking nightmare!

Ryan Khatam said...

it was the complete opposite of a nightmare man, it was absolutely mother fucking AMAZING

and funny enough, it was nothing like my drawing (you see those types of visuals when looking at still pictures and paintings).

but when taking it out in the real world, the fucking OUTSIDE world.... OH MY GOD, things become 100 billion percent MORE real.. (i know that makes me sound like a stoner, but its true). and, of course, i didnt see dragons & creatures (that's what most people think acid does to you), i just saw the REAL world for what it was in it's RAWEST and most REALISTIC state/form.

i literally have never experienced something so unique and amazing - so EYE opening and MIND expanding. and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since that saturday night. and it sucks because i want to tell people about it so badly, but the way in which i saw the world and everyone around me.... its extremely difficult to articulate.

i've strongly been considering doing a post about it and feebly attempting to explain the process with drawings. what i saw was extremely important and i really want to attempt to share it with everyone.

but i am also apprehensive about it because some of it is TOO hard to explain (even with drawings) & i'll probably come off sounding like a stoner.

it also made me really sad, not because it was a shitty experience, but because it was such an INCREDIBLE experience and that most people will NEVER know that experience (because they are unwilling to try it or have tried it but did not use it properly). it is something that everyone with an open mind should do (especially artists). Robert Crumb knew what was up.

lol, seriously, i almost want to run seminars on why people should do it.

PS this is the 2nd time i've done this out in public (every other time has been in front of my computer looking at Frazetta or McGinnis). the 1st public experience was at Sea World and that ranked up there with one of the greatest times of my life..

.. but being in downtown Hollywood.. that took the cake.. the SEAWORLD cake (which i did NOT think was possible)

I know what you're talking about. I used to have vivid images like that when I used to smoke a lot of weed but I know acid must be a shit load more intense lol. I'd see ordinary things through a no bullshit filter and then try and explain it to people which was impossible. However with you being an artist you hould definetly do a post on it.

I'm glad you feel me on this!!

And the "No Bullshit Filter" is an excellent way of putting it.

& yeah as for weed, I've been downtown a bunch of times just to walk around high because of the super old/crazy looking buildings & the wacked out people. when stoned, i saw things in a very similar light as to how i saw them on acid - but the huge difference is, as i like to put it, acid gives you "super vision" - which sounds absolutely ridiculous.. but it is 100% true. A friend of mine once described the effect as "gaining a super power," which sounds silly but is totally accurate.

this "super vision" widens your peripheral vision almost 30% so you are seeing a LOT more around you, giving the allusion that you are controlling a wide angled movie lense/camera.

it also lets you see WAAYYYYY farther away than normal <-- and this is not an illusion. it actually really happens. i wish i knew a chemist or somebody who could break down the effects of acid & explain to me how and why it enhances your vision so much because it really is fascinating.

another thing the "super vision" does is it makes everything you are looking at become high-definition <--- LITERALLY. you know high definition TVs? and how crisp, detailed & sharp the picture is? that is EXACTLY what happens to your vision - though this "super vision" effect ONLY happens when you smoke weed with it (weird huh?). weed seems to take all of the visual effects of acid - and then CONCENTRATES them into like a super-focus. lol. do i sound like a stoner yet?? :P

my theory is that acid seems to be an upper where as weed is totally the opposite. so mixing the two somehow makes that visually concentrated, condensed, super-focus effect.

anyway, as dumb as i sound i am being really serious about what i am saying here - even though most of it sounds completely ludicrous. i may attempt to do a post about it all by using visual aids.

No point in describing that feeling, you just end up sounding like a dirty hippie.

Though there's a book, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid test, about Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters, that put the experience into words better than anything I've ever read. Plus, the the main characters of the book are always on acid! It's awesome, I would recommend it.

Anyways, you should try tripping in the woods sometimes, somewhere remote in nature away from society, it's a totally different feeling, and you get all one with nature and shit.

true dat.

i am gonna look up that book

On wikipedia it says a film based on this book is being produced.

Most of my friends in High school did Marijuana, and while in such a state, they'd tried to explained to me all of the things they had seen (such as me morphing into a 30ft troll, or their feet growing tree branches)

We've still keep in contact, and were still the best of friends.

"Try not to overdose until you finish your cartoon."

FYI

contrary to popular belief, acid is virtually nontoxic and no one has ever died from an overdose. look it up! :B

I tried weed once but I was drunk so nothing really happened. Then again, most of the joint was finished when I got a hit.

I was a bit suspicious myself; they had other stuff near the pile of hash, but I won't go that far; private matters, you know?

hey Ryan, looking forward to some sweet up chuk animation now that you're a free man! this is your fellow dirty hippie Hayden that picked you and Gemmill up in a dark parking lot that cold winter night...

last time you came by you were bummed cuz your Sea World adventure that day didn't work out - glad to hear it turned out awesome (and Hollytrip topped it?!)

here's some great quotes from this article - http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/lsd/braden2.htm - that seems to describe the indescribable pretty well (the rest of the article is pretty cool too)

The subject feels he knows, essentially, everything there is to know. He knows ultimate truth. And what's more, he knows that he knows it. Yet this sense of authority cannot be verbalized (any more than the experience as a whole can be verbalized) because the experience is a whole which cannot be divided, and it transcends all partial abstractions. What is known is pure Being, which cannot be compared with anything else. The subject is identical with that which he knows and therefore is speechless. In any case, language can never describe that which language itself is responsible for negating. Finally, there is the problem raised by H. G. Wells in his tale of "The Richest Man in Bogota." To a race of eyeless men, how do you explain sight? What words do you use?

and

There are no dualities. Sweet and sour, good and evil— these also are abstractions, inventions of the verbal mind, and they have no place in the ultimate reality of here and now. As a result, the world is just as it should be. It is perfect, beautiful. It is the same world that is seen without LSD, but it is seen in a different way. It is transfigured, and it requires no meaning beyond the astonishing fact of its own existence.

when our paths cross again we should swap adventures. did you talk to any strangers? they seem to come out of the woodwork to drop transcendental commentary. I can't even begin to imagine the characters that pop out of Hollyweird.

Hahaha, hey Hayden!! I had forgotten that when we had all hung out it was the saturday I was supposed to go to sea world. That actually happened 3 weekends in a row (the trip getting cancelled/delayed). One of the weekends it didn't happen because I got a FLAT TIRE.

But yeah, I finally did go and it was an adventure of extreme proportions (to put it mildly). I've never experienced something so crazy, aside from being in Hollywood. And I've thought about it more - the Seaworld Trip & Hollywood trip were both fucking awesome in their own separate ways.. so I don't think I can pick one over the other because they were both so fun & crazy. So I'll leave it as a tie.

Haha yes people DID come up and talk to us, luckily my friend Chris was not on acid, he was just stoned. So he was able to handle the characters a little better than me. One guy came up and started walking with us while rapping to us at the same time.. and continued to walk with us for a super long time, rapping the entire way, and even crossed a STREET with us.. I remember thinking, "Ok, ok, there's an intersection coming up.. there is NO way he is going to cross the street with us," but he totally did. I ended up speed walking away, leaving Chris behind with the rapping dude hahahaha.

We definitely need to trade stories, my Sea World experience was fucking nutty. Are you planning on moving to the LA area anytime?

To a race of eyeless men, how do you explain sight? What words do you use?

GREAT quote!!
